There are three macronutrients: protein, fat, and carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are broken down into three categories:
- Sugars: Sweet, short-chain carbohydrates found in foods. Examples are glucose, https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/why-is-fructose-bad-for-you/, galactose and sucrose.
- Starches: Long chains of glucose molecules, which eventually get broken down into glucose in the digestive system.
- Fiber: It is not digested but used by some bacteria.
Then you have "whole carbs" and "refined carbs". Whole carbs are unprocessed containing the fiber found naturally in the food.
