Growing up as a child today is tough. There are so many challenges. One of the biggest challenges our children face today is 'why am I not liked?'. The fitting in and being liked begins from the time you socialize your child. Playdates. Sports teams. Dance lessons. Gymnastics. Church groups like Cubbies and Awana. Community teams like Brownies, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Competition dance teams. This starts at a young age...4, 5, and 6 year olds. We're not talking about late middle school to high school. And what happens next, the parents get involved. Words are exchanged. Tempers flare. Some may think they are defending their children. When the day becomes night and kisses are being shared, the question is whispered, 'Why am I not liked?'. This is the beginning of bullying. And it continues not just as playdates and gatherings, but in classrooms, on the playgrounds, and now on Instagram and Facebook.

• Instagram is a favorite for middle schoolers (Patchin, 2015).
• 43% of students report being cyber bullied (Patchin, 2015).
• 1 in 3 students are being bullied traditionally(National Center for Education Statistics [NCES], 2013).
• 13.1% of students report attempting to harm themselves not in a suicidal manner (Missouri Department of Mental Health, 2012).
• 16.9% of youth indicated they have had self-harm by cutting, scratching, and self-hitting (Canadian Medical Association, 2008).

My heart goes out to Dallas, Texas and Nice, France (the attack today, July 14th during the Bastille Celebration) for the horror that has hit their cities. Know we are praying for you, your families, cities and countries! The psychological effect is huge! Why am I not liked? The K.I.S.S. ~ Love your neighbor as yourself!

1. Stop beating yourself up in front of your children. Watch the comment and words you use.
2. Be slow to speak, slow to anger. Speak words of kindness and gentleness.
3. Be respectful of others.
4. Be the change.
