When you choose to communication with assertiveness, advocating only for you; your thoughts, your values, YOUR way, you are telling your partner --- You DON'T matter! You're worthless!! That sounds harsh. But it's a reality in marriages. It may not be an every minute reality. However, it is one of the golden cornerstones that will strengthen your relationship, strength to battle any potential storm. You know communication is key. 1. THINK - True, Helpful, Important, Necessary, Kind; Considerate expression.
2. ACKNOWLEDGE - Paying attention to emotional and physical cues. Be attentive to his/her thoughts and expression.
3. LISTEN - What your partner is saying matters. Stop tuning out and tune in to his/her sentences. Don't finish his/her sentences.
4. KNOW the heart - React in defense vs. Respond in love.
