The head of Auckland University's nursing school hopes the tide is turning on enrolment numbers.
Infometric analysis shows that the number of people predominantly studying nursing have moved only slightly over the last decade. 
Last year, around 15 thousand people picked up a textbook, the lowest intake since 2011.
But Associate Professor Julia Slark told Mike Hosking she is positive things are changing, including current work on a pre-registration pipeline into the industry.
“And we’re looking at the supply and demand model, so we now know what we’re offering, but it’s a case of finding out what do we really need for nursing across the country.”
