The Cancer Society is defending itself after Health Minister Andrew Little said it was "off the planet". 
The society had criticised new government health outcome targets.
It wants targets for outcomes of people with cancer, and says it needs to be a top priority as it's our biggest killer.
CEO Lucy Elwood told Mike Hosking patients are falling through the cracks.
“The Southern DHB, they only achieved 64.9%, that means 35% of people weren’t getting treatment, and need to be seen within two weeks.”
