We all know food costs increase in winter, but this is going beyond that, up 1.3 per cent in July compared to June.
A head of broccoli has never hit the pocket so hard.
And this is on top of rent prices, up 5 per cent in just the last year, up 10 per cent across the South Island outside of Canterbury.
Chief economist at ANZ Sharon Zollner told Mike Hosking the million dollar question is whether this is temporary or not.
“We’ve still got core inflation running at nearly 3 per cent and still rising.”
